 Dressel Divers - Iberostar Cozumel
« Thread Started on Mar 3, 2007, 6:34pm »

Hi

Myself and Freedom Ryder are looking to return to the Iberostar for some R&R and scuba diving in May.

Has anyone dived out of Dressels this year at the Ibersostar and can tell me if Rob (an English guy) is still the main man there ?

Many thanks
Wossa.................. ;D

Can't help ya, but I can say the diving is FANTASTIC, just returned!! I had friends that stayed that the Iberostar that they loved it, although I can't stand to stay that far south on the island.

I am sad that the reefs are really covered up by a lot of sand but they are still beautiful.

You can always email them and ask if your guy is there

Good luck

Thanks Deputy......

I dived Coz a couple of times last year and thought that the reefs were totally awesome then........there was damage and sand covering parts of the reef, but it still made for some pretty spectacular diving.

Interesting comment about you couldn't stand to staying so south on the Island. Freedom Ryder and I stayed at the Iberostar last May, and would like to return as we enjoyed it so much.....can you recommend an alternative resort on Coz that you think is worth checking out ?.

We are looking to chill out, nice (not built up or over crowded) resort, good dive company nearby and some where you have the option to go out rocking, or have time alone.....any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kind regards
Wossa................... ;D

My reason is only because it is Sooooooooooo farrrrrrr from town, and that is the ONLY reason. The resorts are spectacular down on the southern part of the island.

I just hate the long ride to town, and I LOVE going to town at night or even in the afternoon to mingle and walk around. I just LOVE the people. The atmosphere, I could drink it up 24-7. Depends on what your looking for really, do you want all inclusive or doesn't it matter? do you want to be close to town or do you want to be secluded? It is totally in what you want. ;)

As for diving, I have heard raves about scuba with Allison I tried to book with her when I was just down but she was solid, I even was on a waiting list but no one cancelled. I know a gal who dives with her every year and loves her. I did email with her back and forth be glad to give you her email. I went diving with Scuba Staff Divers. The thing with Cozumel is you can throw a dead cat and hit a dive shop. Last year I dove with Ocean Tours, good also.

Hit me,

Deputy

For sure......dive shops galore in Coz......Dressels were really good at the Iberostar and right on the door step which is always an added bonus....especialy when you are up on the beer all night, and you can just roll out of the sack and onto the boat....... ;D

We are looking at a couple of locations, but I think Coz or Cuba will win the day!!

Wish I could go to Cuba without having to go a different country first to get their((sigh)) someday, someday I will get there.

Cozumel for sure!! It is so awesome there! I have been that swaying person walking to my room in the wee hours of the morning from too many beers and too many tequila oy!! ::)

A good resort is the Presidente InterContinental they have a great pier that a few boats pick up at. I know for sure that Ocean Tours does. That place is GORGEOUS, look in to it. I don't think they mind sharing their pier with dive boats.

Man I wanna go back already...

Hey Deputy

Thanks for the tip !! We will check out the Presidente InterContinental .......always good to go on recommendations, and you are right, Coz is sooooooo awesome !!

We will let you know where we end up going.........fingers crossed for Coz ..... Freedom is quite partial to the 'odd' Tequila, purely social of course, so this may be the deciding factor......... :D

Thanks again.......

Wossa....oh Wossa, your making my mouth water...tequila, tequila...mnnnn. ::)

Check in to the Reef Club as well ,they are also a dive resort, I have heard raves from people who have stayed their, they love love it, and since your going to dive then it would be worth checking in to.

I only got the chance to dive a couple times this year because of a bum shoulder. But there is always next year! ;D

Hey Deputy

Thanks for the tip off about the Reef Club.........decisions decisions...there seems to be so many awesome resorts and dive locations to choose from in Coz ........ :)

We only really have another few weeks before we need to make our minds up and get something booked........we cant wait to get back into the 'blue' again.

We are torn between Coz or Cuba, if we go to Coz in May then we will go to Cuba in the Autumn or visa - versa......so we can't really loose........ ;D

Good pictures by the way......hope your shoulder gets better for your next trip!!

:D Awesome either way it goes I hope you guys have a blast!!

No matter where ya stay in Cozumel I don't know how you could possibly have a bad time?!! ;D

The nice thing is the time you picked should be relatively slow and relaxing as the tourist season is coming to an end, to me that would be a perk!! You would definately be catered too. Personally I think that would be a bonus!! ;D

Someday, oh someday I just might pack up get my FM3 and become a resident of Cozumel I just love it so much there.

Keep me posted,

Deputy

Hey Deputy

Funny you should mention that.......Freedom and I have both been looking at properties to buy in Coz for the last few months, and becoming residents of Cozumel for some of the year, and then renting out our apartment when we are back home...we have arranged in advance to look at some apartments and villa's, if we decide to go down in May...... :D :D :D

Do you fancy coming in 3 ways with us.... ;D...an awesome beach front apartment with a fully stocked bar of Tequila......Freedom will see to that....... ;) ;D ;D

You'll always be welcome to drop on by !!

I will start a new thread and see if anyone has any advice to give!!

Wossa............. ;D

Hey Deputy

I love the fact that tourist season is coming to an end around May.

There is nothing better than kicking back and relaxing without a load of people around.

We will keep you posted on where we end up, jejejeje. ;)

Awesome idea.........I love the scooter and double sidecar.....perhaps we can convert it to run on Tequila, have three drinking straws coming out from the extra large fuel tank, and we will just burn up the beach all day until we drink the fuel tank dry.....or crash...... ;D ;D ;D

Hola

We have received a computerized mail out letter from Dressels Dive at the Ibersostar in Cozumel but we have still not found out any information as to whether or not Rob is still with them.

Does anyone have any information on Rob?. Is he still with Dressels?. ???

If anyone is heading down there could you please P.M. Wossa or myself with any information on Bob?!?!.

Thanks,

Yes Rob is tstill there. Our family group of 7/10 divers did alot of diving during our week at Iberostar Cozumel. I said some stuff about the diving in my post called 'Just back freom Iberostar Tucan & Cozumel" and in a reply to Cozumel - just as beautiful as ever (Deputy343 I think).

Rob is still there and he was great to dive with. We also really liked Rachel and Ian, both very bubbly and knowledgeable. Octavio was good too, but not quite as fun as the other three guides. We didn't know that you can request a guide, so we took whoever they gave us. I liked how our group of 7 could often dive together without anyone else. Only once did 2 more divers join our group.
We also got a DVD made of 2 of our dives. The first DVD ($80) was on a sea turtle dive called Tortuga that we did at Iberostar Tucan. When we reviewed the DVD the colours were even nicer than what we remembered from our dive and the fish were beautiful and really up close. It seemed like we were watching a National geographic show. Plus she filmed us heading to the boat, some shots of our resort and of course us in the water. Hefty price tag aside, this will be a very nice memory for us. The second DVD which I haven't seen yet was a birthday present from my mother-in-law to her husband who did a dive with us on his birthday (March 19). She ended up paying $100 (at Iberostar Cozumel) and I can only hope it is as nice as the turtle dive DVD. So if you end up as a small group diving, you may want to check into to having it videoed, unless of course you have your own underwater video. We used a cheap 35mm ( $40) underwater camera with a flash and a lot of our pictures turned out excellent. We went through 5 rolls of film with several shots from just snorkelling under the pier.

Iberostar Cozumel is much more laid back than Iberostar Tucan and we actually preferred the food at IC better. Just a note about the Steakhouse. 4 of us had to send back our 'blue' steaks or tenderloins as they weren't cooked enough. Even well done came out blue in the center. I usullly like medium and ordered medium well, but my tenderloin came to me in a pool of blood. But they were good about cooking it so more thank goodness.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
