Hello! I'm new to this board, although I've read it often. My question: my husband and I are looking for an adults-only resort in Cancun/Riviera Maya that isn't primarily honeymooners and 20-somethings. We're 50, love the beach and snorkeling. Thanks for any advice or suggestions. This would be for the last week of Feb. of 2008.

For the Mayan Riviera there is the Royal in Playa Del Carmen, it is 16+ years. It is a a very nice resort that attracts all age groups not just honeymooners and 20-somethings. It is located right in Playa Del Carmen which is a bonus if you want to walk along 5th Avenue and do some shopping. There are also some nice restaurants as well & you can take the ferry over to Cozumel.
Then there is the Royal in Cancun (16+yrs as well), it is newly opened and is exactly like it's sister resort in Playa Del Carmen.
I have had co-workers and friends that have gone to both these hotels, and they would go back in a heart-beat, nothing but good to say about them.
Other resorts that are 18+ years in the Mayan Riviera area:
Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun Royal Hideaway Playacar EL Dorado Royale Excellence Riviera Cancun *These resorts are rated 5*'s, they can be pricey, and unfortunately don't look to book last minute as they do not go on sale. Also, being the last week of February, not a lot goes on sale, just maybe the lower end properties. I would read the reviews for all of these resorts just to get a better idea of who goes to them.
schoolmarm, We have been to Secrets Capri, Excellence and Royal Playa which are all adults-only resorts in the Mayan Riviera. If money is no object Excellence is definitely the best of them. If you want something less pricey the Royal Playa Del Carmen is a resort you'll truly enjoy.

We stayed at Aventura Spa Palace for 9 nights in January and were very happy with the resort, Spa, service, amenities and food. When I was searching for reviews on this location, I came upon a lot of comments warning us about the beach. If a long stretch of sandy beach is very important to you, this may not be the place for you. However, we live at Myrtle Beach so that was not as important to us as the pools which we loved.
